04/12, Thursday
We have a delightful lunch with M&J at their favorite Asian restaurant in Villenueve-sur-lot. This is a town they lived in before buying their current place in Fumel. Both Dick and I have Bananas Flambé for dessert, which was great. We remembered when Molly used to make it when we lived in Colgate. Afterwards they gave us a nice tour of the town.
We stopped in Peyragude (meaning wet-stone) above the village of Penne. Penne is on one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela. On the hill 200 meters above Penne is an 11th century church, Notre-Dame de Peyragude. Next to the chapel is the remains of a fortified castle built by Richard the Lion-Heart.
Returning home we stopped for fresh bread at a popular boulangerie, and bought some frozen food at a unique store that specializes in frozen veggies, meat, fish, desserts.
Tonight's movie is "Without a Clue" with Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley, 1988, in which Dr Watson is the brains behind Sherlock Homes. A clever turn of events!
In 2010 we traveled to each of these countries (except Thailand), exploring for only a few days in each. We decided to re-visit each ountry in 2011-12 by renting an apartment for a month or more to live as a "local", hopefully share some of our "talents", as well as do some tourist sight-seeing. This is our journal of the eight months from October 2011 to June 2012.
